What to expect

Upon referral, the Occupational Therapist will make a time to meet with you at your usual residence.  Other important people to you are welcome, such as spouse, family, carers, or care coordinator- it’s up to you.  We will sit down and discuss things you find challenging, and what you want be able to do better.  We will look at any area of the house or activities you find difficult, and together we will help make things easier and more safe.  Sometimes modifying the house is necessary, in which case I will take some photos and measurements, and offer ideas to make the environment easier.  Other times equipment may be trialed or purchased- advice regarding where this is available from can be provided.  Or sometimes advice on how to do things may be provided.  This first visit may may take 1 1/2 hours.

A report can be provided for your GP or care providers outlining what is needed.  This is sometimes important with funding.

Follow up visits as required are important to evaluate how the advice has helped, or if any changes are needed.  These visits may be from 30 minutes.

Feedback is welcome to enable improvement in the service offered.
